What an amazing season it has been for our Lions Inline Hockey Club Under 8s team! Although we finished in 6th place, it was by just one goal difference. This season was all about gaining game experience, as it was the first season for all our players except Ellis, who was in his third season.
We set mini challenges for the children in each game. Today’s challenge was to keep their feet moving and perform stick lifts rather than tackling head-on. This helped the children improve their defensive and attacking plays, showing significant progress, especially considering most of them have only been playing for the last 12 months.
Most of this team will be moving up to the Under 10s age group next season. Having completed the mini game tasks during the Under 8s game days, they will have a better understanding of the game and will continue to grow as a team.
A special shoutout to Hollie, our netminder, who played amazingly today. She started as a keeper only 12 months ago and has shown tremendous growth with each game, taking in all the advice from our coaches. Another big shoutout to Ellis, who won the Under 8s Lion Cubs Top Performer award for his outstanding leadership skills. He helped his teammates understand the game, guided them during faceoffs and defense, and supported them from the bench, all while scoring 15 goals, his highest tally for him in a season so far.
Unfortunately, we did not get a full team photo today as some players had to leave before the presentation. Nevertheless, we are incredibly proud of all the children who participated in our 2024/2025 Under 8s season. With a new group of players ready to take on the Under 8s next year, we can’t wait to set new mini challenges and watch them grow throughout the season, just as this group moves up to the Under 10s.
Our under 8s Lion Cubs are gearing up for their final game day of the season, taking on the Bears, Knights, and Devils! This marks the culmination of their first league campaign together, and the players can’t wait to hit the rink and showcase the skills they’ve been honing all season.
But the excitement doesn’t stop there! We’re thrilled to welcome a wave of new players who will be joining the under 8s league next year. The future of our sport is bright, and we can’t wait to see these young talents grow and shine on the rink.
Let’s cheer on our Lion Cubs as they give it their all and continue to grow the sport for the next generation! π¦π

Yesterday, our Lion Cubs under 8s team took to the rink for an exciting day of inline hockey games! Although we had a small team, they put in a massive effort and gained invaluable experience. Every player showed incredible dedication, and it’s clear that they are all on their way to becoming skilled hockey players.
All of our players put in amazing shifts, and as the games progressed, we saw fantastic improvements. Each player managed to secure shots on goal, giving them a confidence boost and helping them learn the game even better. A special shoutout to Ellis, who scored an impressive 7 goals! Another big congratulations to Hollie, who was voted the Hardest Worker by Ellis for her remarkable saves and always keeping a positive attitude.
Our coaches’ pick of the day was Freddie. Playing in his first inline games, Freddie zipped around the rink, fearlessly getting involved and making significant blocks, despite the larger size of his opponents.
We are thrilled to see so many young children starting to play inline hockey in this age group, and we hope to take an even bigger squad next time around.
This weekend promises to be another big one for our club. Our under 12s will be hitting the rink on Saturday, while Wild Lions and Lions Black will be competing in the West C League. Our Lions Senior team will also be in action in the North West A League.
Lions Black will be playing in the North West B/C League, taking on the current league leaders, Zombie Rising, at 8:50 AM. This will be a very challenging game, but one that the team is looking forward to with the improvements from our game day last weekend.
