Let’s cheer for our Lion Cubs Under 8s team as they take on the Predators, Mooseheads, and Knights in the UKIHF West Junior League this Saturday! It’s going to be an exciting day, especially since itβs the first game day for a few of our young players. It’s amazing to see more children stepping onto the rink!
If you’re thinking about getting your children into hockey, why not bring them down to our Rookie Cubs or Lion Cubs training on Monday evenings at Ardwick Sports Centre? For more information, send us a message via DM or email info@lionsihc.co.uk.
We are excited to launch the first video in our series showcasing our netminders from both the Lions Inline Hockey Club and Raiders Ice Hockey Club. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be sharing footage from all 5 of our training sessions where our netminders wore head-mounted cameras, giving you a unique view of the game from a keeper’s perspective.
Our first video features Henry at this Sunday’s Lion Hockey Hustlers training, where we held a scrimmage session. Although this was a senior training session for C and B League players, we also welcomed under 16 players looking for more experience. Henry, who doesn’t play for the Lion Cubs but is friends with Ellis, joined the session. His mum, Emma, has recently rejoined both our Hockey Hustlers and Senior Lions sessions to get back into the sport and asked if Henry could come along and train.
This video provides an inside look at the game through the eyes of a junior player and showcases how athletic children can be. Henry made some amazing saves during the session and even demonstrated some of the stretches he does before games to our other keepers. Let’s just say, they showed their age trying to keep up!
The camera did slip down at one point, giving us a unique view of Henry’s hand and feet movements. There is also a great section where Henry gives an update on how he and his mum are getting on in the session.
A massive well done to Henry for stepping up and managing to play 40 minutesβan impressive feat for a child his age.
If you or your little one would like to try going in goal or as a player, drop us an email at info@lionsihc.co.uk.

Our Sunday Hockey Hustlers training session was another fantastic turnout with 17 players and 3 keepers participating.
Our coach did a great job splitting the group into two abilities, but both sides carried out the same drills with rotating keepers. This week was special as we welcomed back Emma, a player recovering from an injury, who was part of our partner ice hockey team Riverside Raiders.
Emma wasn’t alone; she brought her son, Henry, who plays with our friends in Wales Predators and alongside Ellis for Deeside Dragons under 10s. Since Ellis was part of the session, he asked if Henry could join, and with Emma’s approval, Henry jumped in. Henry did an amazing job between the pipes, surprising many players with his reflexes. However, the highlight of the night was discovering that this was the first time Emma and Henry had trained together on a roller rink.
At Lions, creating lasting memories is what weβre all about. Winning games is important, but the connections and memories we build as a team are priceless.
If you’re looking for a club to join or want to get your children into hockey, drop us a message and see which one of our 5 sessions a week fits you best.
