This weekend, our Under 10s Cubs showcased massive improvements from their last set of games. Although they didn’t secure victories in the two matches, the personal progression of our Cubs was truly remarkable.
Our young players demonstrated excellent defensive strategies by pushing opponents out wide and battling fiercely along the boards. There were significantly more shots on goal, and the team showed great teamwork by focusing on passing the puck more effectively. Keep it up, Cubs! The improvements shown by everyone are nothing short of amazing. ๐

Our dedicated coaches, Dani and Doc, worked on basic stick handling and skating drills with all the players. Coach James focused on our youngest netminder, Freddie, helping him track the puck. By the end of the session, Freddie was catching pucks like a pro, thanks to connecting the dots!
The session concluded with a fun horseshoe drill, giving the Rookie Cubs a chance to shoot and Freddie to practice what they learned. It was a fantastic session filled with progress and smiles!

Our Lion Cubs players were split into different teams and played thrilling 6-minute 3vs3 games for Group 1 and 9-minute games for Group 2. It was fantastic to see our players compete fiercely on the rink but remain mates off it.
Our three coaches, Dani, Doc, and James, also took on each other with their own teams for the first time. Dani and Doc got the better of James in the group stage, but James got his revenge in the knockout games. His team, the Hotdogs, reached the G1 final, with five Cubs players taking part. Both Cubs keepers, Isabel and Hollie, went in goal for each team in the final. Unfortunately, Coach James’ Hotdogs lost to a last-second winning goal, but all the Cubs involved had an amazing day.
Every one of our players scored goals, including first-ever junior goals for Zakk, Leo, and Lucas. Lottie and Ellis were taken out of their comfort zones by being selected to play in Group 2 with older and more experienced players. Lottie did amazing, getting six wins in very close games. Ellis was selected to play in a special team picked by Rene, who put all the more experienced under 8s players together to help them experience playing against bigger and stronger players. Although they didn’t secure a win, all games were close, including the knockout game where the UFOs lost 2-1.
Hollie won the G1 keeper of the day and the G1 final with Cubs teammates Holden and Lucas. Patrick, Joe, and Theo, along with Isabella in goal and was only competing in her 2nd game day but showed massive improvment making some big saves including in the final game and picked up silver, and Leo picked up bronze. This completed the day with all our G1 players winning a prize. But better than any winner’s medal was the experience all the children got today. They made new friends with players from other teams, showing that while they may be rivals on the rink, they can be friends off it.
Congratulations to Ollie Gotts for being named Aces Manager Simon King’s Player of the 2024/25 Season!
Ollie has shown incredible dedication and skill in his first season of senior hockey, a significant step up from the Juniors. He racked up impressive points and maintained a great attitude throughout, even after taking some big hits and checks. Ollieโs resilience and sportsmanship are truly commendable. Well done, Ollie!
This achievement comes during Ollie’s second year with the Lions Inline Hockey Club, where he has been one of the standout players in the A League. His potential to excel in both ice and roller hockey is undeniable, and we are excited to see how far he will go.
We are thrilled to announce that tomorrow is the Labeda Desert Rats Draft Pick game day at the UKIHF Junior Rink in Market Drayton! Our Lions Under 12s team, along with three of our Junior keepers, will be participating in this exciting event.
The players have been split into two ability groups and will compete in 3vs3 games with five teams in each group. There are plenty of prizes to be won throughout the tournament, including awards for the winning team in each group and the first team to have all players score a goal. Additionally, there will be mini-games like “Quickest Hands on the Super Deaker” to keep the excitement going.
We are especially proud to announce that Ellis from Lions Cubs has been selected to play in the Desert Rats select team in Group 1. This team, chosen by Ren, aims to challenge the under 8s players by having them compete against older players in the competition and also give the children who are taking part in the Natch 2025 USA tournament a chance to form partnerships.
Most importantly, this game day provides all players, regardless of their experience, with another opportunity to gain valuable experience in playing inline hockey. We are proud to have eight players, three net minders, and three coaches helping to run the teams. We wish them all the best of luck and, most importantly, hope they have fun!
The puck drops at 9am for the first game, so be sure to arrive early and show your support!

Today, three of our young Lion Cubs took to the rink at the Deeside Jamboree, each representing different teams but never losing sight of their shared pride in the game. While they may have worn different jerseys, their support for one another remained steadfast throughout the day, showcasing the true spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
Each of our Cubs played exceptionally, bringing their skill, determination, and passion to the rink. Whether defending, attacking, or making crucial plays, their performances were nothing short of incredible. From powerful shots to game-changing saves, they gave it their all and made us proud.
What truly stood out, however, was their encouragement for one another. Despite the competition, they cheered, supported, and celebrated each otherโs achievements, proving that teamwork goes beyond the colours you wear.
A huge congratulations to our three Cubs for their outstanding efforts today! Their dedication and sportsmanship represent what Lions Inline Hockey Club is all aboutโskill, passion, and unity. We can’t wait to see them continue to grow and excel in future tournaments. Well done, Cubs! ๐ฆ๐
Today, Ellis takes on an incredible opportunity, stepping onto the ice for the England Ice Hockey Showcase! While this may not be roller hockey, both sports work hand in hand to sharpen skills and push players to be their best.
Everyone at Lions Inline Hockey Club is cheering you on, Ellis! To all the talented players selected for the Under-10s and the 2018 and 2017 Draft picksโgo out there, play hard, enjoy the moment, and make some unforgettable memories!
