Lions Roar to Victory: A Season of Unmatched Triumph!

🏆 The Lions Senior Team has not just played the game; they’ve redefined it, clinching the coveted top spot of the BRHA North West League with a jaw-dropping 21-0 victory over the Outlaws and an impressive 11-3 win against the Raiders.

🌟 This season was a showcase of sheer determination and skill, with every player leaving an indelible mark on the rink. In their debut senior league season, Oliver and Alfie have been nothing short of sensational, seamlessly blending with the team’s dynamic and racking up points that defy their rookie status. Alfie, our defensive dynamo, closed the season with a stellar 26 points (6 goals, 20 assists), while Oliver, the assist maestro, amassed a whopping 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists), including an assist that will be etched in the annals of the season as the most ingenious.

🥅 Jack, our scoring sensation, topped the charts with an astonishing 86 points, finding the net 64 times and setting up 22 goals. Gaz followed suit with a commendable 51 points, and Jamie wasn’t far behind, contributing 44 points to the team’s tally.

💪 But make no mistake, this was a team effort through and through. Every player stepped onto the rink with a winner’s mindset, contributing to the scoreboard and crafting plays that turned into assists. This synergy has culminated in one of the most complete team performances in any league season.

👏 We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the players for their unwavering commitment, the referees for their fair play, and the BRHA staff for orchestrating a seamless season.

🔜 Looking forward, the Lions are set to make their mark in the 2024 Nationals. And that’s just the beginning. The next challenge? The BRHA North West A League in the 2024/2025 season. We’re ready to elevate our game and roar louder than ever!

Lions Black Showcase Resilience and Growth in BRHA West C League

This Sunday marked a significant moment for Lions Black as they returned to the BRHA West C League. The game was not just any other match; it was the debut of Jon, our new goalie, guarding the pipes with determination, and Ian, who played his first games with the vigor of a seasoned pro.

Despite being short-benched and missing a few key players, the team’s spirit never wavered. Their resilience shone through, displaying a marked improvement from the season’s start. The first game against T-Wrex began slowly, but as the minutes ticked by, the team found its rhythm. A strategic timeout in the last 10 minutes was the catalyst they needed, sparking a synergy that translated into creating chances and a stronger offensive front.

The second game saw a more robust start from the players, culminating in a more cohesive team performance. Although eight goals slipped past in the first period, the team regrouped and fortified their defense, allowing only three in the second. Their efforts in maintaining clear sightlines for the goalies and covering the center of the goal were commendable.

The standout player of the day was Sam, whose growth throughout the season has been nothing short of remarkable. As the youngest member of Lions Black, he has not only shown massive improvement but also an inspiring surge in confidence. Sam’s prowess was on full display as he carried the puck up the rink, weaving through opponents and fortifying our defense. His efforts were rewarded with his first senior goal—a solo endeavor that began in our half and ended with a successful shot on goal.

Witnessing the team’s evolution over the season has been a thrilling journey. With new players joining our Monday night sessions, we’re excited to field a larger squad next season and anticipate even greater strides in their development.

Lions Senior Team clinch 2nd place in the last minute

In a thrilling conclusion to the BRHA West League, our valiant Lions Senior team faced off in the final two matches with high stakes on the line. With the top spot within reach, the team needed a double victory, or at least one point to guarantee a commendable second place. Despite the odds stacked against them, our Lions, a pride of just six players and an injured keeper, displayed unwavering determination and resilience.

The first face-off against the Warriors was a testament to their tenacity. The Warriors, eager to claim their first points of the season after showing remarkable progress, proved to be a formidable opponent. The Lions found themselves trailing early but clawed back to level the score by the end of the first period. The second period mirrored the first, with the Warriors quickly taking a two-goal lead. A strategic timeout allowed the Lions to regroup and refocus their efforts. As the clock ticked down, the Lions narrowed the gap and, in a dramatic last-minute play, Ben secured the crucial equalizer, earning the Lions a spot at Nationals.

The second game pitted our Lions against the newly crowned B League champions, T-Wrex, in a match fueled by pride. Despite a strong start, our power plays faltered, and the day’s challenges mounted. The team rallied once more, never yielding, but ultimately faced a 9-5 defeat. This tough day highlighted the team’s spirit and unity, setting the stage for growth and development in training sessions to come.

Our players stand tall, having secured second place and a berth at Nationals. We eagerly anticipate the next season, where a full-strength team will vie for the coveted A league spot.

Special accolades go to Callum, our ‘Player of the Day,’ whose remarkable progress this season has been a highlight. At just 18, Callum’s contribution to the score sheet and his growth in senior hockey are commendable. We also extend a warm welcome to Coach Ben, who seamlessly integrated into the team’s defense.

A heartfelt thank you to Dan for orchestrating the league, and to the referees and timekeepers whose dedication makes these game days possible. Your efforts are the backbone of our league’s success.

Looking ahead, the Lions are gearing up for the final two games of the BRHA North West League. With two points from four, we can secure another Nationals spot, while three points will clinch the top league position.

Lions Black Triumphs in a Close Encounter

In a thrilling match-up, the Lions Black faced off against the Wild Lions, showcasing a nail-biting contest that ended with Lions Black securing a 4-2 victory. Both teams demonstrated significant improvements throughout the game, making it a day to remember.

The Lions Black continued their campaign facing the Warriors and Killa Wales. Despite losses in both matches, the team exhibited remarkable progress, particularly against the Warriors. The young duo, Sam and Andrew, were the highlights of the day. Their relentless pursuit of every loose puck and their impressive defensive blocks were commendable. It was inspiring to see these young talents gaining confidence and integrating seamlessly into the senior team.

The Wild Lions, though winless this weekend, put up a formidable fight, keeping the game against Lions Black tight. They faced a tough match against the Raiders, and despite what appeared to be a daunting defeat, they managed to keep the scoreline competitive until the final five minutes. With only six players, the strain began to show against the Raiders’ larger squad. Nevertheless, the Wild Lions have shown vast improvement, not only in maintaining a solid box formation but also in executing breakaways and completing intricate passing plays that led to goals.

Standout players of the weekend, Claire and Sami, deserve special mention. Claire’s tenacity in chasing down every opportunity paid off with a goal, while Sami proved to be an unyielding force in defense.

A heartfelt shoutout goes to Dan, Chris, and Adens for stepping up during the goalkeeper crisis after James sustained an injury in the first Lions Black game, rendering him unable to continue for the day.

Looking ahead, Lions Black will return to the rink on May 26th, and both Wild Lions and Lions Black will play their final games of the season on June 23rd. As we eagerly anticipate the 2023/2024 season, we extend an invitation to Manchester-based individuals interested in joining our team. We are actively seeking players for both the North West and West Senior Leagues, as well as the West Junior League.

For more information or to join one of our five weekly sessions, please reach out to us at info@lionsihc.co.uk.
