November Highlights at Lions Inline Hockey Club

This November has been a transformative month for Lions Inline Hockey Club, marked by significant changes in our training sessions. With over 30 junior players now in the club, we have restructured our training to better accommodate our growing community.

Training Updates

  • Monday Night Sessions: We now hold dedicated training sessions for Under 9s and Over 10s at Ardwick Sports Centre.
  • Sunday Night Sessions: Our Wild Lions and Lions Black teams have merged their training sessions, now hosted on Sunday nights at Atherton Roller Rink.

These changes aim to enhance the development of both our junior and senior teams by focusing more on hockey skills rather than beginner skating. We’ve already noticed remarkable improvements in our Lion Cubs, Wild Lions, and Lions Black players.

Tournament Achievements

  • Toxic Tournament: Three of our Lion Cubs participated, with Ellis reaching the semi-finals and securing third place. Our under 8s and 10s netminder played in her first roller tournament, reaching the final and saving all penalties in the semi-final to help her team clinch second place.
  • Under 12s League: Our Lion Cubs under 12s team played their first league games. Despite not securing a win, the players gained invaluable experience and came off the rink with smiles, ready to tackle future games.

League Performance

  • Wild Lions & Lions Black: Both teams started their C League seasons, showing significant improvement from last year. Although they didn’t secure wins, the Wild Lions notably held T-Wrex to only four goals and scored one themselves.
  • Lions Black B League: The team faced tough competition in the North West B League but gained valuable experience to build on throughout the season.
  • Senior Team: Our senior team began the West A/B Round Robin with strong wins over Stars and Mooseheads 2, aiming for an A league spot this year.
  • Riverside Raiders: Despite a tough start against Solihull Viking with a short bench, the Raiders bounced back with a win against Altrincham Jets, showcasing strong team play and positive performance.

Looking Ahead
As we move into December, our Under 8s and 10s junior leagues kick off, and our senior team competes in the North West A league after last season’s B league win. The Riverside Raiders also have exciting games lined up, including a home game against a Navy team and Buccaneers.

Our senior teams are strong, but we always welcome new players. If you’re interested in joining one of our five senior teams or getting your children involved in our junior teams, we have spots available for Under 8s and Under 12s.
