League day weekend for our Junior and Senior teams.

This weekend saw our junior team back in the North West League and our Senior team back in the West League.

Lions Juniors played Devils in the 1st game and lost 5 – 1 but despite the loss the players had a lot to take out of this game as we had 4 players missing. Even with the players missing our very inexperienced team still managed to outshoot the Devils team but the Devils netminder was on amazing form stopping all but one shot on goal.

Lions then took on Newport in the 2nd game and despite all the players efforts in this game it was not enough to see off Newport who won the game 6 -3.

Despite the losses we have taken quite a few positives from the weekend in that the team is never known when it is beaten and keeps going until the final buzzer.

We also had 2 players making debuts this weekend. Our 9-year-old Finley Kelly who managed to get an assist in both games. We also saw our newest player Molly Farragher-Ann play her 1st two games and she did not look out of place in the league when she was on the rink and made some important interceptions during both games.

Lions senior team played against league leaders Dragons and much improved Coyotes on Sunday.

The 1st game against Dragons was a back and fourth game where Lions went 2 – 0 up and then the Dragons came back and went 5 – 3 up. Our senior players dug deep the in the latter half of the game and in the final minute of the game managed to get the game winning goal in a very close fought game. The game finish 6 – 5 to Lions.

The 2nd game Lions faced Coyotes who were looking for revenge after the 1st game of the season was won by Lions. This again was another close fought game between both teams, but Coyotes came out on top with a 5 – 2 win.

The west League is looking like it will go right to the final game this season as from top to bottom every team is very closely matched and each game is proving that on the day any team can get a win.

Lions Juniors are back in action on March 30th where they will take on Macclesfield and Preston in the North West league.

Lions Senior team play again in the West League on April 28th where they will take on Hitmen and Warriors.
